Tell us about yourself. I started my career in insurance working as a licensing analyst for TPAs and insurance companies. I then became a financial examiner and spent several years in that role before moving into market conduct about eight years ago. Since then, I have been responsible for supervising Tennessee’s market conduct examination and market analysis work. I am also assisting with our newly-created PBM Compliance area. I think that my various roles on both the financial and market conduct sides of the aisle have helped me to understand how all the areas of insurance regulation work together to protect consumers.
I have a B.S. in Biology and an M.B.A., both from Tennessee Technological University. When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, reading, watching baseball, and sampling craft beers.
How long have you been a member of IRES? Eight years.
What made you get involved as a State Chair? I could see the difference the IRES educational programs made for me and wanted to encourage participation from the rest of our staff.
Do you have any advice for new IRES members to make the most out of their membership? Get involved and take advantage of all the learning opportunities. The recent Lunch & Learn classes have been excellent and were a great resource for my team of analysts. The annual Career Development Seminar and IRES Foundation Schools are also great opportunities, not only to learn from the presenters, but to meet regulators from other states and learn from them.
